An orange avalanche
Pumpkins are in season so witness an avalanche of ripe pumpkins exploding from a MIGROS supermarket. Rolling through the streets of Zurich, one lone pumpkin with a mind of its own, hops on the doorstep of a guy who cooks it to perfection.
The Job
CG shots of simulated rolling and bouncing pumpkins though the streets of Zurich. All done for a 20 second tv-spot.
My Role
— Client point of contact for all production and financial needs
— Finding and booking freelancers / planning resources
— Clear communication between all stakeholders and personnel
— Managing team from pitch to final delivery
— Managing client reviews, approvals, and deliveries
— Invoicing, collecting final assets, approved credit lists and portfolio live dates
The Process
We arranged for a vfx-supervisor to be on set during the shoot, noting all the details, taking care of tracking markers, HDRIs for lighting. Taking reference photos and measurements of the environments. Lidar scans of the streets were made for stand-in geometry for the pumpkin simulations. We created a number of realistic pumpkins, of which the models were used in Houdini simulation. We let that bounce and roll through the stand-in geo streets of Zurich. After re-doing that sim way to many times we came to a point that we all agreed that -yes- good enough is good enough. The final pumpkin in front of the door was hand animated and all the shots rendered in V-ray and composited on the cleaned up backplates in Fusion.
